San Jorge Muxbal Guatemala was the venue for the Level I Course for Assistant Leader Trainers. The Course was held from Friday April 30 to May 2, 2010. The course was attended by trainers from Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. Belize had the participation of Jersha Lennan - National Cub Scout Commissioner, Orlando Garcia - National Training Director and Daniel Palma - Scout Leader for the 8th Toledo San Pedro Colombia Scout Unit.
In spite of the cold and rain the course was educational, motivational, and informative. The course was very intensive and the participants had to put in late hours of work to benefit more from this course.
As part of a session, the participants held discussions and shared their experiences. It also allowed the participants to make presentations as the sessions may have required. Topics such as: Effective Communication, Communication and Language, Non Verbal Communication, Strategies for Effective Communication, and Teaching of Adults.
The course also included a wide variety of practical group dynamics and activities. These group games were done in a practical and very interactive manner. The participants learnt how and when to use them and how to play them correctly. All the sessions included one or more group games that thought how to effectively apply them within a training session.
The course has a follow up part 2 that will be held 17 - 19 September 2010 at San Jorge Muxbal Guatemala. The Scout Association of Belize will benefit a lot as we take the challenge to strengthen our Capacity Building Training Team with new adult trainers.
Adult Leaders who have completed Advanced Wood Badge Training and are interested in working as trainers with the National Capacity Building Team are asked to contact Scout Headquarters. You may qualify to attend the up-coming course in September.
