Camp was cool!!! Camp was cool!!!. This is what most Scouts that took part had to say about this year's Corozal District Xmas Camp. The three day camp was held from December 27 - 29 at the Belize Defence Force district training base located in the Santa Rita layout area. During the three day camp, Scouts had the opportunity to participate in a number of training activities including cooking, map and compass, rifle shooting and small craft making.
The camp also had the participation of a Venture Scout Leader from Japan who was very instrumental and taught the Scouts some Japanese arts and crafts. During the closing ceremony some Scouts received various awards including proficiency badges in hiking, cooking and camping. Venture Scout Leader from Japan presented each participant with flags from Japan and Belize made out of beads during the camp.
District Chairman Rafael Ramirez in addressing the Scouts at the closing ceremony encouraged each Scout to start preparing for the 2010 camps by saving half of their daily or weekly allowances.
Hilberto B. Riverol, National Scout Executive was also present for the closing ceremony and congratulated the participants for their participation in the Xmas Camp and thanked the adult Leaders for organizing the event during this period when young people have lots of free time on their hands. He also encouraged all the Scouts to start saving their money to participate in the 2010 summer camp and the up-coming Panamerican Jamboree that will be held in the month of July in Mexico City. These are must camps to attend, he told the Scouts. The camp was supported by nine adult volunteer Leaders under camp director Lucia Cituk, Scout Leader for the 13th Corozal St. Francis Xavier Scout Unit.
