June14, 2013 was a historic day for the village of San Benito Poite in the Toledo District as 15 Scouts, 4 Venture Scouts and 3 Adult Leaders made their Scout Promise in front of the entire village of Poite.
For us from Belize City, our journey started at 4:15 a.m. on the morning of June 14. The Belize group of 4 members included National Scout Executive, Hilberto B. Riverol and Cub Scout Leader from the 6th Corozal Methodist Scout Group, Sayuri Quan. Accompanying the Belize leaders were Bertha Estrella Garcia and Ricardo Ceballos members of the Grupo 1 Chetumal Quintana Roo Scout Group.
The Belize group arrived at 10:10 a.m. in Poite, this was after missing the junction to Poite and reaching all the way to Corazon Creek. Never the less, we arrived in time for the official program.
Invited Guests as they arrived to withness the swearing in of the newest members of
Scouting Worldwide, including Village Alcalde Pablo Makin
and Chairman Santiago Makin
By now Scouts and the entire village and student body had gathered to witness the official installation on the new Scout Unit in this remote village down south.

National Anthem was being played
And so it was that the official ceremony was called to order by the Master of Ceremony Michael Cus. The National Anthem was played and the Belize flag was raised along with the Scout flag. This was closely followed by the opening prayer said by Thomas Teck.
The official welcome address was delivered by village Chairman Santiago Makin followed by an address by village Alcalde Pablo Makin.

In case you were wondering at the beginning why our Mexican brother and sister Scouts had travelled this far to attend the ceremony now you will know, it was at this point that Group Scout Leader, Bertha Estrella Garcia made an official presentation of the Unit scarves to Scout leader Martin Palma. It was back in the month of March when Martin and Bertha met that they spoke about the investiture and was at this point Bertha made the commitment to donate the scarves to the Unit at their investiture.

The investiture of the Scout leaders followed and as the new Leaders smartly marched in front of the gathering and special invited guest, they were asked if they wanted to become Scouts to which the smartly and clearly replied, YES SIR!!! Then they made their Scout Promise as follows:
Scout Leaders Elio Coc & Estevan Teck affirming the Scout Promise
I promise to do my best, to love GOD, serve my country, work for peace and be true to the Scout Law.
The world membership badge was then presented to each leader and then the Unit scarves were placed on them.
Venture Scouts were second in line to make their Scout Promise
Similarly, the Venture Scouts followed through the same procedure and the parents were invited to place the scarves on their children as a sign of their support and believe in the Scout program which builds sound character and strong values thereby contributing to better citizens in our communities thus creating a better world.
The Scouts followed suit and similarly, said their Scout promise and were presented with their badges and scarves.

All good thing must come to an end and so it was that Scout Leader Martin Palma delivered the vote of thanks but not before reading a letter from Sir Colville N. Young, Governor-General of Belize in which he expresses his thanks for the invitation to attend the Investiture Ceremony but regrets that due to his crowded calendar of appointments he was unable to attend. He however, conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes to all the new members of this important institution of Scouting.
To close off the program, everyone present was invited to join the festive mood with a lunch of CALDO which I am sure, everyone thourghly enjoyed.
