"We must begin to inoculate our children against militarism by educating them...I would rather teach peace than war, love rather than hate". -- Albert Einstein (1879 -1955)
The Belize Sea Scouts and other sailors of Belize Sailing Association took the time out to sail with a 20-sailor contingent from Guatemalan Sailing Association (ASOVELA), Guatemala.
This group visiting Belize joined the Belize Sea Scouts in participated in an exhibition sail race last Saturday as part on the San Pedro Regatta 2012 being hosted by the San Pedro Youth Sailing Club.

This regatta showcased a developing corps of young, skilled sailors in Belize along with visiting guests. While in Belize City, the Belize Sea Scouts showed the visitors around it’s home base, Buttonwood Bay, and sailors exchanged ideas regarding board rigging and challenges of sailing in very calm wind last week. At the same time, the cultural exchange should help to understand differences and, hopefully, continue to promote peace and mutual respect among neighbors.
On Saturday, San Pedro was treated to exhibition races, but this was only a teaser for the competitive and exciting sailing held on Sunday June 24th, in front of Caribbean Villas starting at 9 am. The regatta on Sunday featured multiple Optimist heats along with races for mono-hulls and multihull boats.
