The National Scout Assembly of The Scout Association of Belize held an award and appointment ceremony on Saturday November 4, 2017.
Governor- General of Belize, His Excellency Sir Colville N. Young who is the Patron of Belize Scouts was present for the ceremony and presented the Highest Award in Belize Scouting, the Queen's Scout Award to Assistant Cub Scout Leader Reese Medina from the 27th Cayo Santa Elena Jaguar Scout Group.
In a congratulatory message from the Governor-General he stated that he not only congratulates Reese for this outstanding achievement but also reminds her that the Queen's Scout Award is not the end but the continuation of the road she has chosen to follow. Pass on what you have learned to new members of your Venture Unit, Scout Unit and Cub Scout Pack and do not forget that many other Queen's Scouts around the world share the same principles and live the Scout Promise and Law which are the foundation of this great Movement.
Following the presentation of the Queen's Scout Award, he proceeded to Appoint Captain Eric Neal as the Chief Scout of Belize and presented him with his certificate of appointment.
Captain Neal is an accomplished Military Officer who has participated in numerous military training courses the most recent one being "War College Diploma in International Security Affairs.
As a young individual he joined the Scout Movement in 1992 as a member of the 1st Belize Holy Redeemer Scout Unit where he participated in numerous activities and camps. His most memorable ones being camping at Camp Oakley, participating in Scout Olympiads, marching in parades and biking from Georgeville in the Cayo District to D'Silva Camp in August Pine Ridge.
In accepting the appointment, Chief Scout Neal pledged to work hard to bring better Scouting and do whatever possible to make Scouting more attractive for young people.
The National Scout Assembly congratulates Reese Medina in earning the Queen's Scout Award, the highest award in Belize Scouting and Captain Eric Neal as Chief Scout of Belize.
The ceremony was held at St. Catherine's Academy Spiritual Life Center in Belize City.
