National Heroes and Benefactors Day 2016
Monday March 7th was a public and bank holiday as Belize celebrated National Heroes and Benefactors Day 2016.
Cub Scouts, Scouts and adult Leaders from the various Scout Groups in Belize City assembled by the tomb of Baron Bliss to pay homage and respect to Belize’s greatest benefactor and National Heroes.
By 7:45 a.m. Scouts and other uniformed organizations present started assembling in parade formation to participate in the Guard of Honor mounted in connection with this annual historic/memorable event.
Upon the arrival of His Excellency the Governor-General, the parade was brought to attention and the Belize National Anthem was played. The Scouts looked smart in their uniforms while saluting during the playing of the Anthem.
Immediately after, the Governor-General conducted the inspection of the Guard of Honor. Following the inspection of the Guard of Honor, wreaths were placed on the tomb of Baron Bliss by His Excellency, Sir Colville Young and Mr. Carlos Perdomo who placed the wreath on behalf of the Government of Belize.
Wreaths were also placed on the images of the Honorable Phillip Goldson and the Right Honorable George Price immediately followed by tributes being read honoring these two great Belizean Heroes and Belize’s greatest Benefactor, Baron Bliss.
President of The Scout Association Ms. Jersha Lennan also attended the ceremony and was greeted by Sir Colville with a firm left hand shake during a special period set aside by the Governor-General to greet invited guests.
Following the ceremony, President Lennan thanked all the Scouts and Leaders for coming out to the ceremony.
The Scouts and Leaders were then treated to a cold Crystal juice thanks to The Scout Association of Belize and its sustaining members.
