Camp Oakley,
the national camping and training grounds of The
Scout Association of Belize, boast a new water
supply tower and water tank. Thanks to the
generous financial assistance of Claire and
Chester Czepyha, from New Hampshire, who are
long time friends of the Scouts of Belize.
The new water tank holds a capacity of 2500
gallons of water, increasing the water capacity
of Camp Oakley to 6000 gallons and increasing
the number of water reservoirs to three.
The water supply at Camp Oakley comes from a
manmade well and the water is pumped into the
elevated water towers through the use of a
windmill, which was also donated by the
Czepyha’s some years ago.
As more Scouts and other organizations use Camp
Oakley, the demand for more water has increased
over time and it is hoped that this new water
tank in place will accommodate the high demand
of water during events at Camp Oakley.
Over the years, the Czepyha’s have received
several awards from the association including,
the Chief Scout Personal Award, the Chief Scout
Commendation for Good Service and the Century
Gold Award.

The Scouts of Belize salute and thank the
Czepyha’s for the genuine and generous support
they have provided to the Scouts of Belize over
the past 20 years. It must be mentioned that
the Czepyha’s worked with The Scout Association
as Peace Corp volunteers during 1986 to 1988 and
were responsible for the drafting, editing and
printing of the first handbook for the Scouts of
Belize, a handbook which is still in use. They
also introduced the 250 Club and Sustaining
Membership Enrollment Program currently in use
by the Association to raise funds to support our
ongoing program and training activities.
Since 1986 they have been returning to Belize
almost yearly and have invested heavily on
replacing the rafters and roofs of all ten
cabańas at Camp Oakley. Not only with money but
with their labor as well, and this is
commendable.

Thank you Chester and
Claire
for your true
love and friendship with the Scouts of
Belize.
