The Unit Council Course
The Scout Association of Belize
The new date set is June 28 - 30/2008

Activity:
The National Program Commission will be conducting a Unit Council Course
from June 28 - 30, 2008.
at Camp Oakley near Burrell Boom Village.  The Course will start at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday 28 and will conclude at 11:00 a.m. on Monday 30.


Who Can Attend:
  This Course is specially designed for current 2008 registered members of Unit Councils of all Scout Units.  (Unit Council Members that have participated in a similar Course may attend if so desired)

Objectives:
  The Course is designed to give firsthand experience to Unit Councils in the area of the Scout Unit training program using the Symbolic Framework and putting it into practice, how the Patrol System operates, the Scout Method, the Law and Promise, the Scout Unit and the Educational Objectives and Activities.

Structure:
  The Unit Council
Progressive Training:
  Adventure Stage: Track & Trail stage of exploration and Course & Traverse and the Proficiency Badge Scheme.

$20.00 is being charged to help defray the cost of this Course which will cover the cost of the Unit Council Manual (one per participant),
materials, meals that will be prepared by Patrols starting with breakfast on Sunday to a pack snack on Monday.  Snacks will also be available during breaks.  Participants are to provide their own packed supper for Saturday night.

Transportation: 

Unit Councils are responsible for their transportation to and from the Course.


Assembly Point: 

Participants should assemble by the Methodist School in Burrell Boom no later than 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Instructions will be given at this point and all Unit Councils should come prepared to hike to their training bases along with all their belongings and Patrol equipment. 
A VEHICLE MAY BE MADE AVAILABLE TO TRANSPORT HEAVY EQUIPMENT.


Uniforms:
  Class A and B are required.  No uniform, no participation.
(NO UNIFORM WILL BE SENT HOME)

Equipment and How to Arrive:
Each Unit Council should arrive in Patrol formation and with complete uniform for the opening ceremony.  After the hike participant should wear Class B uniform. The Scout Leader, who will monitor the Patrol, will participate alongside his Patrol.

All Unit Councils must bring along the necessary camping equipment: first aid box, tents, tarps, cooking utensils including portable stove and small butane tank, and personal camping equipment, etc. (Remember that each Unit Council will be hiking with their equipment if no transportation is available).

Upon arrival at the campsite, the Scout Leader in charge will direct all Unit Councils to their respective campsites.

Please Note that NO parents will be allowed in the campsite areas during the Course, neither to take food during the Course.

Recognition:

1. Each Unit Council that attends will receive a certificate of attendance
2. Each participant will a receive the Patrol Leaders Trained Emblem
3. An Award will be given to the Unit Council with the highest Scout Spirit

Logistics:
In order to have a successful camp it is necessary to have the participation of Scout Leaders from each Group present.  Your presence is important so that you have a clear understanding of your role as the Leader of the Unit.

Snack Pack      -           chips bag, chocolate bar, sweets, bottle of water

Sunday June 29
Breakfast          -           bun with cheese and chicken sausage and Milo
Lunch               -           Beef Burger and fries, Cool Aid and orange
Supper              -           Pibil with beans, rice or flour tortilla, Coco drink
The Celebration  -           Apple juice (creamsoda)

Monday March 30

Breakfast          -           Cereal with milk, boiled eggs, bread and butter, bananas and orange juice

Pack snack       -           Chips bag, chocolate bar, sweet and water pouch
