Corazon, a Spanish word meaning “heart” in English, is a village in the Toledo District located just where the name implies - CORAZON, the HEART of the Toledo District. Proud parents standing at the begining of the ceremony This is where Scout Leader Martin Palma was transferred to teach just a year ago and he wasted no time in establishing one of the best organized Scout Units in the Toledo District. After months of hard work and training and preparing them to become Scouts, the day finally arrived.
Students from Corazon Creek High School At 4:00 a.m. on the morning of June 18, 2010, National Scout Executive Hilberto Riverol and Scout President Ramiro Duran started their four-hour journey to witness the formation and official investiture of the Scouts, Ventures and Leaders of this new Unit of Scouts.
Students from Primary School came out to see the Scouts The drive from Belize City to the junction of the road in Toledo leading to Corazon was a pleasant one on all-weather paved road, but here we were about to enter the off-road that would lead us to Corazon. The drive, even though bumpy most of the way, was quite enjoyable as we were able to see much wildlife in their natural habitat. Before long we arrived at our destination.
We headed to the school where we met Scout Leader Martin Palma and Field Executive Ricardo Alcoser. Alcoser was in Corazon a few days earlier to assist with the preparation of this grand celebration.
President Duran Arriving at ceremony site Before long we were gathered at the basketball court where the ceremony would be held and then it was time for the ceremony to begin in front of a large number of students from the village high school, parents, well-wishers, teachers and other invited guests.
President Duran Inspecting the Guard of Honor At this point Ricardo Alcoser invited the adult Leaders to come forward and affirm the Scout Promise.
Scout Leaders accepting the Scout Promise as a way of life Immediately after, the Scouts came forward by Patrols and were invested as Scouts, making them the newest members of the worldwide Brotherhood of Scouts.
Scouts Accepting to live by the Scout Promise Entertainment followed and a cultural presentation by students from the middle division of Corazon Creek RC School displayed their colorful dance clothes and talent for dancing.
Cultural presentation by school children President Ramiro Duran delivered the keynote address in which he congratulated the new members of the Corazon Scout Unit and urged the parents to support the program by getting involved in the Parents Committee so that the Scout Leader could dedicate his time to the training of the Scouts. He commended Scout Leader Martin Palma for the excellent work in preparing the Scouts for investiture and thanked everyone who contributed in some way in making the day’s program a success.
Corazon Creek Scout Unit - Welcome into Scouting The master of ceremony and Pricipal of Corazon Creek RC School Mr. Pedro Ishim, Jr. then invited everyone to join in continuing the celebration with a healthy bowl of the traditional chicken caldo with delicious handmade corn tortillas.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE VILLAGE OF CORAZON AND THANKS FOR SUPPORTING SCOUTING IN YOUR COMMUNITY.
