The Course was designed to give firsthand experience to the young leaders in the area of the Scout Unit training program using the Symbolic Framework and putting it into practice, how the Patrol System operates, the Scout Method, the Law and Promise, the Scout Unit and the Educational Objectives and Educational Activities.
The Symbolic Framework for the event was “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN”. This theme gave the participants a unique opportunity to learn the importance of planning with responsibility and working as a team. It also highlighted the concept of good versus bad gangs.
The participants assembled at the Methodist School in Burrell Boom at 7:00 pm on Friday evening for the official opening and briefing for the duration of the weekend. They then hiked to Camp Oakley where they set up their tents.
On Saturday the participants had a full day with the training sessions and a mock battle with the Pirates and the Baymens in the Milky Way pond. In the night there was a “CELEBRATION” dinner for all the participants and staff.
Following the closing ceremony, some of the participants were then involved in placing garbage bins in the Burrell Boom and Bermudian Landing areas as part of the recycle program currently being conducted by the Scouts.
Seventeen Scouts from the Holy Redeemer, St. Ignatius and Burrell Boom Scout Groups along with eight adults and three Venture Scouts attended the weekend training.
The Course was directed by Nephtali Palma, Program Director for the Association, who was assisted by a core of qualified trainers, members of the Capacity Building Team. |
