Mr. Omar Habet receiving the Business Award from Governor General of Belize Sir Colville N. Young The year 2011 is a very historic one for the Scout Movement in Belize as It marks 100 years since the first recorded Scout Troop was registered in 1911.
Scouting was founded by Robert Baden-Powell in the United Kingdom in 1907. The Scout Association of Belize has grown to be the largest youth organization in Belize serving both males and females. The National Scout Assembly heads the Association and the aim of the Association is to encourage the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people so that they may take a constructive place in society.
To commemorate this occasion, a Centenary Awards Banquet under the distinguished Patronage of the Governor-General, Sir Colville N. Young and Co Sponsored by the Belize Scout Endowment Foundation was held on Saturday, November 26 in the Majestic Ballroom of the Princess Hotel and Casino.
In Keeping with the Scout Promise, “To do my best, Love God, Serve my country, Work for peace and to be true to the Scout Law” the planning committee diligently worked to provide the attendees with a very exciting evening full of entertainment and information.
Several individuals from a cross section of the community who have made outstanding contributions to Scouting over the years were recognized during the evening program. A Special Centenary Award and tribute was made to the former Prime Minister and The Father of Independence, Hon. George Cadle Price.
The Leopold (Poli) Balderamos Lifetime Achievement Scouting Award was presented to Mrs. Alma Eiley along with the Silver Wolf, the highest award in Scouting for adult volunteers.
