New President of The Scout Association of Belize Roberto Harrison (Front Row Middle)
The Scouts of Belize have a new President. Mr. Roberto Harrison was elected as President of The Scout Association at the 24th Annual General Meeting of the National Scout Assembly held on Saturday December 3, 2011. He succeeds Mr. Ramiro Duran who held the post for the past five years.
In accepting the post of President, Mr. Harrison committed to steering the Association in a new direction with emphasis on developing a strategy to increasing membership, improving adult resources and finances to continue building on what the Association has so far accomplished – molding the young boy and girl into the man and woman with freedom and integrity, ready to serve others, a creative person, a spiritual person.
At the meeting the reports for the year in review were highlighted which included Courses for both young people and adult volunteers, investiture ceremonies for new Groups held countrywide, and educational programs held both nationally and at district level. The audited financial accounts were also presented which showed a small surplus at year’s end. Membership had a sharp decline by almost 95%. In explaining this decrease it was pointed out that this was because of the new policy of reporting only registered Scouts, meaning Scouts who pay their annual registration fee.
Elections for the vacant post of Director of Education was held and elected to this post for two years is Miss Jersha Lennan.
Election of members to the National Committee was also held and elected to serve for a one-year term were:
Patrick Thompson - National Scout Commissioner Diego Grajalez - Orange Walk District Representative Imogene Williams - Belize District Representative Everaldo Puck - Corozal District Representative Nephtali Palma - Director of Educational Programs Armando Aban - Corozal District Representative
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Nephtali Palma, Director of Educational Programs gave the vote of thanks.
