Michigan
International Camporee 2008
July 27 -
August 3, 2008
What is the
Michigan International Camporee?
The Michigan International Camporee, hosted by the
Chief Okemos Council, Boy Scouts of America, is the largest
Council-run multinational Scouting event in North America. Once
every four years, contingents of Scouts, both all boys and mixed
boys and girls, from over 20 countries, gather for 8 days of
international friendship and fellowship at the Chief Okemos
Council’s
Northwoods Scout Reservation.

When
is the next Michigan International Camporee?

The next Michigan International Camporee is scheduled for the week of
July 27 to August 3, 2008, with home stays for international contingents
with mid-Michigan families the week before.
Will Belize be Represented?
Belize will be represented by a mixed Patrol of 4 boys and 4 girls and
will be accompanied by two adult Leaders, one male, one female. The
male Leader or delegation leader has been appointed; he is Nephtali
Palma, Director of Program who has over 15 years of Scouting
experience and has attended numerous international encampments.
Applications are open for the female Leader. The only requirements are
having completed Basic Training and have more than one year active as a
female Scout Leader. All participants must be current registered
members of their Scout Units and must be at least 12 years old or at
least 11½ years old. All youth participants must be under 18 years of
age as of August 1, 2008. Please note
that it is the responsibility of the participants to ensure that their
Belize passports and United States visas are up-to-date.
Camporee Registration Fee:
Please note that
there is no registration fee to attend this event as this is covered by
the scholarship assigned to Belize but each participant will be
responsible for his/her travel expenses and incidentals during the
entire trip.
We are at this time inviting on a first-come-first-serve basis
only ONE member per Unit to apply
for admission to this event; applicant must have at least one camping
experience. Deadline for this first call for admission is December 14,
2007. A NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of
$200.00 must accompany each application. If after this date
vacancies are available, more than one person from the same Unit will be
able to apply.

Travel Plans:
There is no definite travel plan as yet but we are currently looking at
two options: 1) travel by road to maximize the adventure and get to
visit and know more places during the travel period; this method should
also prove more economical; 2) fly direct to Michigan through Cancun or
fly from Belize to Houston with a connecting flight to Michigan.
Whatever method of travel is used will be decided by the end of January
2008.
Home Hospitality Program:
Once in Michigan from July 20 - 27, a Michigan Troop or Crew will home
host the Belize contingent of 10 members. During this program a number
of visits to places of interest will be scheduled and each participant
will be expected to cover the cost of entry to these places, including
recreational parks.
Once the home hospitality program concludes, the Belize Contingent will
head to the Michigan International Camporee 2008 where the camping
adventure will begin.
