CUB SCOUTS PROMISE TO LIVE BY PROMISE & LAW PDF Print E-mail

On May 13, 2010 twelve Cub Scouts made their Cub Scout Promise and were welcomed into the worldwide brotherhood of Scouting by National Cub Scout Commissioner, Jersha Lennan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This took place in the lovely village of Indian Creek in the Toledo District.  The program began with a guard of honor mounted by the Cub Scouts and Leaders and as the distinguished guest arrived they were welcomed by acting principal and Assistant Cub Scout Leader, Auxiliadora Mendez.  Cub Scout Leader Ramiro Coc had the Cub Scouts in formation and in its traditional manner the Cub Scouts did the Grand Howl Ceremony, promising to always do their best to live by the Cub Scout promise and Law.

First Regional Forum on Maritime and Port Environmental Management PDF Print E-mail

The “First Regional Forum on Maritime and Port Environmental Management” was held on May 27 & 28, 2010 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. 

 

 


The Forum was sponsored by the Central American Commission of Maritime Transportation (COCATRAM) and the Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD), through the Project for Pollution Prevention and Control of land-based and maritime sources within the Gulf of Honduras. 

 

The specific objectives of the forum were:

 

• To debate and agree on strategies and actions oriented to improve port management, and control and prevent pollution caused by hydrocarbons and other land-based sources in the Gulf of Honduras

• To expand strategic capacity of information areas on the matter.

• To identify mechanisms to optimize the use of GOLFONET.

• To facilitate articulation of the sectors gathered by the network with other sectors interested on the subject matters

• To analyze and compare cases with new approaches to address pollution cases

 

Present at the forum were over 20 key stakeholders representing government departments, non government organizations, and the private sector in the Gulf of Honduras region (Belize, Guatemala and Honduras), whose commitment is on port and maritime management, pollution prevention and control, and preservation of coastal areas in the region.  Belize had representation from The Scout Association of Belize, Department of the Environment, Port of Belize and the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute.



 During the two-day forum Mr. Ricardo N. Alcoser, Director of Environmental Programs who represented The Scout Association of Belize did a Power Point presentation on pollution prevention and control.  The topic for the presentation was on “Scout of Belize participation and contribution on the Annual International Coastal Clean-up” which included statistics of quantity of detailed items collected on an annual basis during the one-day coastal clean-up.

 

 

At the end of the two-day forum participants were able to agree on strategies and actions oriented at improving port management and control and prevention of pollution caused by hydrocarbons and other land based sources in the Gulf of Honduras, became more aware, through information presented, on what other organizations are doing as their contribution to control and prevent pollution and how new approaches can be used to address the pollution situation in the Gulf of Honduras.

Course for Leaders of the Scout Section PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday May 29, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. Scout Leaders started to assemble at Camp Oakley to participate in the Intermediate Course for Leaders of the Scout Section. Within minutes a group of eight adult Leaders from the Cayo, Orange Walk and Corozal districts were anxiously awaiting the commencement of the Course.
 
Director of Education Roberto Harrison and his team of Trainers were busy setting up projectors, flip charts and starting their computers while the participants were asked to settle in the cabañas where they would sleep for the night. Then without further delay the official opening and welcome ceremony was held.
 
The two-day Course was organized by the National Capacity Building Team which is headed by Director of Education Roberto Harrison. Long hours of advanced preparation went into this Course. 
 
Commissioner Jersha Lennan conducting Session on Young People Ages 11 through 15
 
Trainer and National Cub Scout Commissioner, Jersha Lennan began her first session which dealt with young people ages 11 through 15 and included 1) Basic Concepts - Adolescence, a Stage of Growth and of Personal Progress; 2) The Main Development Tasks Between the Ages of 11 and 15; 3) A profile of Girls and Boys by Dimensions of the Personality; 4) Other Aspects of Young People During This Age.
 
Another session presented by Commissioner Lennan was the Symbolic Framework which contained the following topics 1) Symbols - Represent and Educate; 2) The Taste of Exploration - Discovering New Worlds; 3) Interest in Taking Over a Territory; 4) Belonging to a Peer Group; and 5) the Symbolic Framework in Action.

The main objective of the Course was to introduce the new Handbook for Leaders of the Scout Section. This training is a pre-requisite to attending Advanced Leadership training (Advanced Wood Badge Course) which will be held at Camp Oakley from August 8 - 13, 2010.
 
As the training came to a close, Director of Education Roberto Harrison CONGRATULATED the participants for attending the Course and reminded them that they now qualify and that they are one step away from Advanced Wood badge Training.

The National Capacity Building Team of The Scout Association of Belize is made up of Qualified Trained Leaders from all sections of Scouting in Belize and is responsible for providing updated training to all adult members of The Scout Association.
